Helen Britt is the founder of Resort to English. Born and raised in England, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology at the University of London, entering the Department of Social Services upon graduation. She emigrated to Canada in 1972, where she discovered the exciting world of travel and tourism. Helen qualified as a Certified Travel Counsellor and worked as a retail travel agent from 1976-2003.
After more than 25 years in the travel industry, she decided on a career change which would allow her the opportunity to pursue her passion for travel, while helping people learn English to develop themselves and their career prospects. She completed the TESOL course in Toronto in 2003, and left Canada for Paris, France, where she taught business English to groups and individuals for the Chamber of Commerce, and for Lingua-Institut, a private language school.
Helen returned to Canada in May, 2005, and has since upgraded her teaching skills by completing the University of Cambridge CELTA course at Language Studies Canada in Toronto. She continued to teach ESL and worked as an independent teacher for a private language school in Toronto, teaching general English to international students of varying levels of proficiency until she decided to create her own company that allowed her to combine her various skills to serve the travel industry.
